Machu Picchu can be visited all year, but the season you choose changes the light, the crowds and the price. Here is how to pick the best moment for your trip.
The dry season: May to September
These months bring clear skies, cold nights and the best views of the citadel. It is also the busiest time, so book your tickets and train several months ahead.
- Sunny days and little rain
- Best conditions for the Inca Trail and Salkantay
- Highest prices and most visitors
June to August is peak season
If you want a quieter visit, aim for early May or late September, when the weather is still good and the crowds thin out.
Arrive on the first bus and you will see the citadel emerge from the morning mist.
The rainy season: November to March
Green landscapes, fewer people and lower prices. Showers are common in the afternoon, so pack a light poncho. The Inca Trail closes in February for maintenance.

For most travelers April, May and October offer the best balance of weather, price and crowds. Tell us your dates and we will suggest the perfect itinerary.
