Cusco sits at 3,400 meters above sea level. Most visitors feel the altitude during their first days, but a few simple habits make the difference.

Give your body time

If your schedule allows it, spend one or two nights in the Sacred Valley (2,800 m) before going up to Cusco. Your body will adapt gradually.

What helps in practice

  • Drink plenty of water and coca tea
  • Eat light meals and avoid alcohol the first night
  • Walk slowly and rest when you need to
  • Sleep with an extra pillow

When to ask for help

Headache, nausea and mild dizziness are normal. If symptoms are strong, tell your guide right away; all our tours carry oxygen and a first-aid kit.

Arrive in Cusco at least one full day before any trek.
